Featured Finalist: 'Think Safe' and Wellbeing Initiatives (Clancydocwra)
In 2014, one of Clancy Docwra’s employees suffered a fatal injury at work as he was inadvertently struck by an excavator mounted vibrator (EMV) attached to a 35-tonne 360° excavator. In response to this tragic incident, Clancy Docwra re-assessed their controls of the provision and use of work equipment, how it structures and delivers training programmes and how it communicates effective health and safety messages throughout the organisation With full endorsement and financial backing from the Board, the ‘Think Safe’ programme has been developed over time and it continues to gain momentum; influencing safer behaviours and delivering more positive outcomes.
A tactical plan supports staff in a range of areas: such as addressing healthy lifestyles (nutrition and fitness), mental health issues, work-life balance, development opportunities, recognition and reward. Their culture is founded on a business management system (BMS) which maintains accreditation to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007. Innovative techniques ensure that the campaign content connects with attendees and increases their recall of the delivered health and safety messages and in 2016 a dedicated Group Health and Wellbeing Manager was appointed to continually review and improve wellbeing provision.
