Recognising that mental illness is a reality for many and with an aim to promote a safe working environment where staff can flourish, regardless of whether they have a mental illness or not, Jacobs UK introduced their Mental Health Matters (MHM) strategy.
The MHM strategy was Initially trialled through a network of 120 Positive Mental Health (PMH) Champions in the UK, whose role was to promote positive mental health, reduce the stigma and be a point of contact for staff seeking help and to guide them to the appropriate support systems Jacobs have in place.
The development of PMH Champions was initiated through Jacobs core value that people are the heart of the business and the scheme relied on the efforts of employees wanting to see a change within the industry in relation to mental health. The strategy was implemented in three stages; training and awareness, building resilience and finally installing support systems to ensure staff were supported appropriately.
Since the MHM strategy was introduced, the response at Jacobs UK has been remarkable with engagement now spreading worldwide. The network of PMH Champions has risen from 120 to 400 and Jacobs aims to increase this number to 1000+ by the end of 2018.
The winner of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing category will be announced at the awards ceremony and dinner gala on the 28th of June at the Royal Lancaster, London. For more information or to book click here.
