Health, Safety & Wellbeing and Sustainability
Location: Shoreditch, London
Type of construction: Residential
The Principal Place Residential project is promoting a positive health and safety culture that encourages incident reporting, respect and good communication between all parties involved.
Multiplex and the supply chain work together to reinforce good practices by recognising operative’s contributions, by giving praise and positive feedback and awards.
All supervisor Multiplex managers and trade supervisors must attend ‘Blue Vest Training’ where legal duties, responsibilities, behaviours and project safety culture are explained and discussed. Regular health and safety consultation meetings are also held with operatives, supervisors and H&S managers to learn and share knowledge within the project and on other sites.
Multiplex have introduced other health, safety and wellbeing measures to the site including mini health checks, a site nurse involved in regular site walks, healthier options and free fruit available in the site canteen and project teams with full time first aiders and mental health first aiders.
A key challenge for Multiplex has been to balance the demands of the construction site without compromising on environmental protection and the project’s ability to leave a long-lasting, positive impact on the community. Multiplex have collaborated with consultants and subcontractors to manage sustainability risks and reach out to the local residents, schools, colleges and businesses. They have developed sustainability initiatives that can be applied to future construction sites, promoted the industry to future talent in the local community and upskilled local people to help them progress in their careers.
The winners of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing category will be announced at the awards ceremony and gala dinner on the 28th June at the Royal Lancaster, London. For more information or to book your table click here.
