Integration and Collaborative Working

Location: Cobham

Type of work: Social Value

Prison is about rehabilitation, but to make this happen ex-offenders often need help to re-build their lives, with employment being key. There is a huge untapped resource across the UK of people that have potential but just need the opportunity. Willmott Dixon’s (WD), ‘Ready for the Gate’ Programme provides this and offers the opportunity for ex-offenders to start a new chapter. WD provide in-mates with CITB approved Health & Safety training and offer the opportunity to gain CSCS cards. Supply chain partners support the initiative by attending careers events and offering those leaving prison, employment within the construction industry.

Through a collaborative approach WD liaised with their supply chain, the head of HMP Elmley and CXK, an external training provider already working at the prison to formulate a training programme that would make a difference and reduce the overall re-offending rate of 56%. In 2017 WD trained 39 inmates and to date, none has re-offended, and the social value figure associated with the programme is 4.4m for the year ending 2017.

The winners of the Integration and Collaborative Working award will be announced at the awards ceremony and dinner gala on the 28th of June at the Royal Lancaster London. For more information, or to book a table, click here.
